I wanted to check on a buffalo head I took out there 2 years ago. The guys in prison wanted a new one to put in front of their sweatlodge. A medicine man brought one in the back of his pickup. The problem was that he brought a fresh buffalo head, not a cleaned skull. I didn’t have any pot large enough to boil the flesh and hair off. They told me if it was put out in the elements, the worms would clean it up. Tom agreed to let me put it in the pasture of his acreage. Today I saw only about half the hair has come off and that some animal broke off the mandible and one of the horns. I would not have been allowed to bring in a fresh head to the prison yard since it would smell bad and attract bugs and creatures.
